The immortals
FRANCE, Belgium | 80 minutes | 2018
Ahmed is 13 years old, a Belgian. When he is radicalized by the neighbourhood imam, the boy promises to assassinate his teacher, an impure woman who has relations with a Jew. Despite the hot and thorny subject matter, the Dardenne brothers were not about to slip into moralizing. Following their protagonist with an intimate, nervous camera, the Belgian filmmakers revisit their signature cinematic style. An intimate, humanist story in which Idir Ben Addi stands out: the young non-professional actor fascinates and impresses with his cruelly melancholy face and quiet determination.CANADIAN PREMIEREThe film will be presented in its original French version with English subtitles."The Dardennes have constantly won our hearts for those misunderstood or marginalised by mainstream society. There is an urgency to The Young Ahmed, not only in the personality of the character but in the way events quickly escalate." Screendaily
