This year again, the Festival du nouveau cinéma will participate in the outdoor film series "Downtown Screenings Under the Stars", in place de la Paix.

Meeting on Tuesday September 8, at 9:00 pm with ELECTRO CHAABI, by Hind Medded and KINGS OF THE WIND & ELECTRIC QUEENS, by Gaspard Kuentz and Cédric Dupire, presented during the ‪#‎FNC2014.‬

ELECTRO CHAABI : All credible music movements are born from either ritual or revolution: Chaabi (or Mahraganat), equal parts punk, hip hop, drum and bass swagger and manifesto, is one that rose out of popular celebrations, such as weddings and festivals, throughout North Africa, yet found its ferocious, infectious calling in the tone and tenor of the Egyptian Arab Spring. Belly dancers and bands didn’t have a chance once DIY DJs and MCs crashed the party, adopting and adapting the music style to suit the changing times. Told through the music, its fans, bootleggers of the beats and keepers of the flame, Electro Chaabi burns with the fervor of newly reclaimed freedom, for those who just “can’t keep quiet.”– Madeleine Molyneaux

Time : 77'
Original version with French subtitles

KINGS OF THE WIND & ELECTRIC QUEENS : The indian state of Bihar, at the confluence of the Ganges and the Gandak, is where the famous sonepur Cattle Fair is held every year. A cross between an indian-style livestock show and a no-holds-barred carnival where people come from far and wide to gawk at the dazzling sights, the fair dissolves boundaries in an anarchic celebration. On the lineup at this fantastically giddy bazaar are mysterious dancing girls, wild-eyed exorcists, whirling extreme acrobats, mustachioed characters, elephant trainers, racehorses and music, music and more music.

"Hallucinatory and immersive, Kings of the Wind is a tour de force that must be felt and experienced. One of this year’s great revelations, it absolutely needs to be seen on the big screen." - Julien Fonfrède

Time : 56'
Original version with French and English subtitles

Screenings : 9pm to 11pm
Free admission - Open to all (at the place de la Paix)

In case of rain, screenings will be moved to the ground floor of the SAT (1201 St-Laurent).

The outdoor film series "Downtown Screenings Under the Stars", in Place de la Paix, is presented by the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] in collaboration with the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and the borough of Ville-Marie.
