Human activities have rendered the Earth uninhabitable, and the last remnants of forest are preserved aboard spaceships – a bit like Noah’s Ark. Botanist Freeman Lowell tends the preserved environments lovingly, until one day the bosses decide that these scraps of nature are no longer worth the cost of their upkeep. A melancholy fable about the end of the world, noted for its majestic visuals, Bruce Dern’s fine performance, the unforgettable robots Huey and Dewey, and its Joan Baez soundtrack. Silent Running remains a powerful plea for biodiversity, made at a time when people were only just starting to worry about the environment. It has only grown more relevant since then. The screening on October 11th will be followed by a discussion about the importance of climate activism with Extinction Rebellion (Elza Kephart) and La Planète s’invite à l’université (Marouane Joundi & Léa Ilardo).Presented by URBANIAIn collaboration with Extinction Rebellion Québec.
