9:05 pm, EASY LAND by Sanja Zivkovic. A creative, unstable Serbian refugee struggles to build a new life in Canada as her daughter tries to pick up the pieces of their dashed hopes. A poignant drama carried by two brilliant actresses. Director in attendance ! *There is a 2nd screening Friday.
9 pm, 1000 KINGS by Bidzina Kanchaveli. In a society peopled by abstract figures, a thousand people are encaged in a giant space, distinguished only by their social status, like a beehive. Their single aim is to produce light. A conceptual, poetic animation on the origins of life, the universe and more.
7:30 pm, LA VIRGEN DE AGOSTO by Jonás Trueba. As the other locals flee Madrid for the summer, a woman in her 30s moves into a sublet and, needing to both lose and find herself, experiences a season charged with encounters. Actor-script writer Itsaso Arana + director in attendance ! *There is a 2nd screening Saturday.

A handful of vignettes from this nuanced, composite vision of Iceland, captured as Christmas nears. Director in attendance ! *There is a 2nd screening Sunday.

5:15 pm, Screening + discussion DARRYL NEPINAK. From Skownan First Nation, was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A discussion will follow the screening on Darryl’s cinema, at times deadpan as well as engaging. Director in attendance !
6:05 pm, SYSTEM CRASHER by Nora Fingscheidt. From foster homes to alternative therapies, jaded civil servants to compassionate social workers, the torturous path of a “problem child.” Winner of the Alfred-Bauer Prize for innovation at the last Berlin Festival, a draining, exhilarating film that will break your heart. 9 pm, THE BODY REMEMBERS WHEN THE WORLD BROKE OPEN by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, Kathleen Hepburn. Two Indigenous women from different backgrounds come together and share a moment between distress and communion. A naturalistic and highly sensitive first film where women’s words and experiences are brought to life in all their complexity. Director Kathleen Hepburn in attendance !
BONUS (It's Sunday, but Monday it's holiday ! So there is a Berliner techno night ... let's do something new for Thanksgiving! )
From 7:30 pm at the Agora du coeur des sciences of UQAM for the only FNC's show that isn't free, but still a good deal, KOMPROMAT (10 pm) with Xarah Dion eas a 1rst part (8:30 pm).

1 pm, LA RIVIÈRE SANS REPOS by Marie-Hélène Cousineau & Madeline Ivalu. Amidst the violence and turmoil of the 20th century, a young Inuit woman oscillates between freedom and assimilation in this intimate melodrama that blows a fine wind of resistance, in keeping with its unconquered setting. The complete crew in attendance !
5 pm, Screening + discussion Poggi & Vinel ; 2 short film programs will be screened. A discussion moderated by Emilie Poirier will follow the screening of their co-directed films. The aesthetics of violence, weapons and the world of video games are found in their works, but never to the detriment of love, friendship, clan and family. Directors in attendance !
