Monday 14th

  • 1 pmLA RIVIÈRE SANS REPOS by Marie-Hélène Cousineau & Madeline Ivalu. Amidst the violence and turmoil of the 20th century, a young Inuit woman oscillates between freedom and assimilation in this intimate melodrama that blows a fine wind of resistance, in keeping with its unconquered setting. The complete crew in attendance !

  • 5 pm, Screening + discussion Poggi & Vinel ; 2 short film programs will be screened. A discussion moderated by Emilie Poirier will follow the screening of their co-directed films. The aesthetics of violence, weapons and the world of video games are found in their works, but never to the detriment of love, friendship, clan and family. Directors in attendance !

  • 7:15 pm, Courts métrages BogoshortSpotlight on Bogoshorts festival With a goal to build and consolidate short film culture in Colombia, and help promote Colombian filmmakers, the Bogoshorts movement puts together local, national and international events throughout the year, ending each December with the biggest short film even.

  • 12:30 pm, SYSTEM CRASHER by Nora Fingscheidt.  From foster homes to alternative therapies, jaded civil servants to compassionate social workers, the torturous path of a “problem child.” Winner of the Alfred-Bauer Prize for innovation at the last Berlin Festival, a draining, exhilarating film that will break your heart. Director in attendance ! 

 

 

Tuesday 15th

  • 5 pm, A MORT L'ARBITRE by Jean-Pierre Mocky (1982). In memory of the important french director. Mass hysteria ensues when a soccer match is lost due to a controversial penalty called by the ref. Kill the Referee is a brilliant comedy that veers dangerously into tragic territory for frivolous reasons. When sports fandom goes off the deep end. Carole Laure in attendance !
  • 6:15 pm, L'ACROBATE by Rodrigue Jean. Two strangers who meet by chance in an apartment under construction is the premise for a murky relationship defined by hardship, oppression and a clash of hearts and bodies. A mysterious and powerful new addition to Rodrigue Jean’s filmography. Main actors in attendance !. *Une deuxième séance a lieu jeudi.

  • 7 pm, NUIT #1 by Anne Émond (2011). 35mm copy - as part of the tribute to K-Films Amérique's 25 years anniversaryAnne Émond’s debut is a bold huis-clos. After a one-night stand, two rudderless thirty-somethings open up with each other, talking freely about their fears and their era. Catherine de Léan in attendance !
  • 7:15 pm, MICKEY AND THE BEAR by Annabelle Attanasio. A teen saddled with the responsibility of her oblivious father has to make an impossible choice in this début feature that picks apart the threads of a troubled father/daughter relationship. Director in attendance ! *There is a 2nd screening Wednesday

  • 8:50 pm, CRANKS by Ryan McKenna Winnipeg : In this fragmented portrait, the ever-intriguing Winnipeg provides an offbeat setting for some incredibly endearing characters in this series of black-and-white tableaux vivants. The crew will be present ! *There is a 2nd screening Wednesday

  • 9:05 pm, ADORATION by Fabrice Du Welz. An ethereal, frantic, destructive drama, the latest from the Belgian director is a frenzied runaway story in which two teens’ passionate love triumphs over reason. A bold film, admirable in its irrationality. Director in attendance !

 

Wednesday 16th

  • 5 pm, Talk - MATTHEW RANKIN, the success of singularity. Matthew Rankin (Tesla ; lumière mondiale & The Twentieth Century) looks back at his film school career. Since his time at L’inis in 2004, his unique and offbeat style has made a mark on the international circuit. Free admission, subject to availability.   • 5:15 pm, THE GREAT TRAVELLER by Federico Hidalgo. n this mysterious story, travel writer Edgar and his old friend and colleague Bill set out on one last trip together, to write the sequel to their bestseller, written 20 years earlier. The trip is fraught with peril. Director in attendance !

  • 10 am, Felix & Paul Studios MASTERCLASS Unlearning Cinematic Conventions. Since launching in 2013, Felix & Paul Studios has set the standard for cinematic virtual reality, forging the way to interactive storytelling. Join the founders of the Montreal-based, Emmy Award-winning studio, Felix Lajeunesse and Paul Raphael, as they take you on their journey from filmmaking into immersive entertainment.   • 1 pm, SHORT FILMS RPCÉ 4: UNIVERSIDAD DE LA COMUNICACIÓN. As part of RPCÉ (Pan-Canadian student film meeting), we are welcoming a group from UNIVERSIDAD DE LA COMUNICACIÓN of Mexico and screening their works.

  • 5 pm, FERAL by Andrew Wonder. A young homeless woman living in the tunnels beneath Manhattan copes with trials and tribulations in her struggle to survive without compromising her own rules. Raw and energetic, Feral plunges headlong into an unrecognizable New York, with us riding shotgun beside its fierce protagonist. Director in attendance ! 

  • 6:30 pm, UNE JOURNÉE DANS LA VIE DE NOAH PIUGATTUK by Zacharias Kunuk. Spotlighting the enforced exodus in the 1960s of an Inuit band on Baffin Island, the Isuma collective pays vibrant tribute to solidarity and tradition. The crew will be present !
